SAUNG
TREK- A 10 DAY TREK
The magnificent Pindari Glacier is easily accessible and is about 3 kms
long at an altitude of 3353 metres. This trek offers views of the soaring
peaks all the way and passes through pine forests, glades, wildflowers and
tumbling waterfalls. Best time is between September and end October when the
air is exceptionally clear.
An outline is provided below:
1st Day at RANIKHET which can be reached from Delhi by car or with
an overnight train journey
Day 2 SAUNG / LOHARKHET
Day 3 LOHARKHET / KHAATI
- trek 19 km. Loharkhet / Khaati ( 2220 mtrs. )
Day 4 KHAATI / PHURKIA
- trek 16 km. Khaati / Phurkia ( 3300 mtrs. )
Day 5 PHURKIA / ZERO POINT on PINDAARI
- trek 07 km. Phurkia / Zero Point on the Pindaari Glacier ( 3900 mtrs. )
Day 6 PINDAARI / DWALI or KHAATI
- trek 12 km. to Dwali - if routes to Sundar Dhunga are open, or 17 km. to
Khaati
Day 7 DWALI or KHAATI / SUNDAR DHUNGA
- trek 22 km. ( via Khaati and less via Dwali
Day 8 SUNDAR DHUNGA / KATHALIA or KHAATI
- trek 07 km. Sundar Dhunga / Kathalia or 20 km. to Khaati
Day 9 KATHALIA / DHAKURI or KHAATI / SAUNG
- trek about 07 km
Day 10 DHAKURI / SAUNG / RANIKHET
- if at Dhakuri, trek back to Saung, board waiting jeep, drive back to
Ranikhet.
